Apple picking season is here and we are so excited for the treats that await us. Filled with the sweetness of apples and honey, this cake is the perfect way to enjoy any and every celebration. This year, we are making it to celebrate Rosh Hashanah!
About Rosh Hashanah
Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year, beginning the night of October 2nd, 2024 and ends on the night of October 4th, 2024. It is a beautiful time to reflect, sing and gather with loved ones. Learn more about Rosh Hashanah HERE.
Gather Your Supplies:
Apple Sauce Ingredients:
- 5 apples
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons honey
Apple and Honey Cake Ingredients:
- 2 cups applesauce
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 stick of butter
- 3 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 cup of honey
Part 1: Cook Your Applesauce
Step 1:
Go on an adventure to your local apple orchard (or grocery store) and pick up your favorite apples. Bring along your favorite Nature Treasure Hunt Canvas Book Tote to carry all your apple treasures!
Step 2:
Peel your apples and cut them into small chunks. Add to your saucepan with your water and honey.
Step 3:
Cook over medium heat for 15-20 minutes. Let cool slightly and then mash to your desired consistency.
Part 2: Bake Your Apple and Honey Cake
Step 1:
Combine your flour, nutmeg, cinnamon, and baking powder into a bowl. Mix and set aside.
Step 2:
In a large mixing bowl combine your butter and honey and cream until smooth. Add your vanilla and mix. Then, add in the applesauce you made in part one (or your store bought one) and combine.
Step 3:
Slowly add your dry mixture and mix until just combined. Then pour into a greased cake pan and bake at 325° F until a fork comes out clean (70 - 85 minutes depending on cake pan).
Step 4:
Let cool and enjoy!
