Gather Your Supplies:

These are the supplies for this project:

  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1/3 cup of salt
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 cup of water (warm)
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil (or vegetable)
  • Food coloring
  • Jars for storage

Create your Rainbow Dough:

Step 1: Mix your dry ingredients together (salt, flour, cream of tartar). Stir in your oil and water and heat over medium to low heat. Stir constantly until the dough starts to form a ball and thickens. If you are making one color dough, add your food coloring now. If you want to do more than one color, add after dividing dough into sections and knead in color later.

Step 2: Place the dough on a piece of wax paper and let cool slightly, then knead until smooth. If the dough is too dry, add a bit more oil. If you are doing multiple colors, divide your dough and add food coloring now.

Step 3: Once cooled, your play dough is ready! This dough lasts for 3-4 months. Store in an airtight container and in a cool dry place. Enjoy!
